And the numbers keep rising. Looks like we’re going to hit pink today. I thought those days were long gone. We were totally regulated and now its like I’m not even giving her insulin.

Is there anything else I should do? It’s really hard to sit here and watch her BG just keep going up and not be able to do anything. At what point do you go get Humulin?

It’s also hard for me to feed her when I’m looking at a 289 reading.

I’m super negative right now about all of this. If she weren’t so cute I would just give up from complete exhaustion. I’m sorry to be negative, I’m venting in a safe place. 😔

She dropped from 289 to 212 at +3. She also peed sometime around +3. She peed overnight too so she’s dumping sugar thru her kidneys now.

So isn’t a good part of the 289 to 212 drop because she’s purging it thru kidneys vs the insulin moving sugar from blood to cells? Back to my claim that the insulin appears to be doing very little.

Started new vial May 5th. All this started May 9th. Surely its coincidence. I still have the prior vial in fridge with about a quarter of the insulin remaining and the vial in use for maybe approaching 2.5 months. Maybe I should revert. Can’t hurt.

New vial started on the 3rd according to your SS comments. It was 7 days after that when the numbers started to rise. The previous depot wouldn't have lastest that long. However, it won't hurt to experiment. You didn't need to start a new vial. People here typically got 5 ish months out of a vial.

What you could be seeing is New Dose Wonkiness. Put on those patience pants. Has she been diagnosed with CKD? I don't see any recent lab data on the SS. If no CKD, then I wouldn't stress about some time above renal threshold. She did much more for a good part of last year.

289 to 212 is because the insulin is working to lower the numbers. Her insulin onset seems to be around +2.

It is not time to think about Humulin.

Thank you Wendy … keeper of the never ending supply of patience pants and all around feline diabetes and kitty care wizard. I feel better seeing your post.

I’ll get her most recent labs added to her sheet. She just had annual exam with in house bloodwork and additional bloodwork a week later (friday) when I took her in for the sudden diarrhea / vomit incident. No issues ever in past with kidneys. She’s also only 5 years old. I just assume this stuff is cumulative as far as impact and harm to internal organs … here and there adds up.

Have you ever seen a vial or pen change appear to have potency difference without any obvious sign of problem with the insulin (no floaties or discoloration)? I think I will go back to the older (but still young) vial tonight. I know they can last longer. I’m super paranoid and high strung (not that you can tell or anything) …. I get a new vial just in case a sudden issue happens like dropping or getting infected or having it stolen by alien invaders … it could take a few days for pharmacy to get new vial as they don’t always have one in stock. I had my husband look at the new vial this morning to see there are no obvious issues with it, he proceeded to tell me I was holding it wrong and he grabbed it with one finger touching the top rubberized part that you insert needle into … I yelled at him for getting his bacteria on it and made him go to store to buy alcohol so I can clean the top before inserting a needle.

This made me laugh. "alien invaders." And your husband. :D

Also, this is difficult for you, Laura, because you have worked VERY, VERY, VERY hard to get and keep Minner regulated. She is your little charge that you love, and you've done your very best by her.

This disease can be so difficult for care givers because we can only do what we can, and then it's simply out of our control, and when things don't look or go as we planned, it's SO frustrating.

Wendy's advice IS FD-kitty-care-wizardry! And so sound.

We're all here with you.

This is so sweet and kind and well received. Thank you, I needed it.

And …. Minner thanks you in a way we all can appreciate! Her first poo since basically “sh*tting thru a straw” incident Friday. Look at that form!

🤣🤣🤣😍✌️ I think we alllll have to be a little OCD to manage and survive! Our partners on the other hand haha oh boy, those poor souls. I may have mine convinced that nothing would survive in his care 🤣🤣🤣😜.

We do love a good formed poop, Laura!

When Ivy had pancreatitis in February, I think I took more pictures of her poop so I could be sure of what was happening and so I wouldn’t forget what day the disgusting events happened on and then I could watch any progress as it “formed”. 😫

And yes, those alien invaders. I think they exist in all of our homes. And of course, my DH is constantly being yelled at for touching something inappropriately or suggesting I shouldn’t worry about something.
Excuse me, sir, not worry about a symptom are you out of your mind?

I do feel badly for all of our significant other others. But at this point, they should know better than to challenge us or question anything we say, we are knee deep in caregiving 🤯

😻💖💕🤞

Minner's numbers were looking great on the old vial. It wasn't until the "won't eat, diarrhea" comments appeared on her SS, that things went up. Along with going to vet, 2 hours late shot - which can act like a reduction. Nothing you could have done about it - stuff happens.

Interesting +2 tonight with the new vial. 💙 Could also be the end of NDW.

Love this. My husband is/was allergic to cats. We’ve been together 20 years now. Cats are back in house with me/us now. He’s on allergy shots and he adores them (the cats, not the shots). He adopted a kitten after we lost Minner’s mom almost 2 years ago because he was her human and he was heartbroken. He has come a long way for sure, but yes, I am over the top OCD. I’m already freaking out about having surgery June 3rd. How is he going to do all this. I’ve employed help from a fellow catlover bff to stay at our house a few days to help while i’m out of it.

UH I’m so sorry Laura 😓 I can’t offer advice, but I have run through all of the questions you have before and it’s so very normal and frustrating. It’s especially hard when they’ve been doing so well and then all of a sudden and seemingly out of nowhere, things change. You start to question every decision and everything that’s happened in the last week or so - it’s so hard to know what’s what. Nothing is certain and their bodies are such a delicate ecosystem. I wish there was more control and more certainty.
You’re doing absolutely everything you can and caring for Minner so incredibly. I hope you start to see some changes soon (looks like tonight is going well - anti-jinx!)
Have a great night 🤗

Agree! There was alot going on. I think I’ll stay on old vial for a while here to see how this pans out.

I have noticed a significant difference in her bleeding when doing her ear pricks over past 3 days. It’s nearly gushing at a slight prick. Heals up fine with pressure. Makes me wonder if one of these drugs she is on now somehow thins the blood.

Love a good poop picture! Sorry about all the stress. I am am sure you'll get her back to those blues and greens. Bell is nowhere near regulated as Minner, but she seems healthy to me outside of some ickiness on the big swings. Not that it helps the frustration and feeling of backtracking, but I wouldn't worry about the oddball high cycles, I'd be more focused on how Minner seems.

Super sorry about the surgery, that is very stressful. I hope you are doing ok.
