When I travelled with Neko (or other cats), I let them out in the house or hotel room. Just being careful to close doors to rooms I didn't want her in or which had too many hard to reach hidey places. One hotel room had a very heavy headboard that had the perfect amount of room behind for a cat! I stuffed the ends with pillows so she wouldn't go in. I think cats feel better away if they can be with their people. Of course, mileage varied for places that have other unfamiliar pets - such as staying in a cabin where there were dogs about. When visiting DM Neko roamed the house until my brother and his dog arrived. Once she had explored the place, she seemed content to mostly stick in the room where her food, bed, and litter box were.

Not sure I have an answer on why the 204. Maybe he was just glad to no longer be in the car? I didn't notice a difference in Neko's numbers when I tried a gabapentin trial.
