I had a feeling something was going on with Jude as his numbers have been erratic yesterday and now he's in the yellows this a.m. I'm guessing that it's either a FIC flare or UTI because he isn't showing any symptoms of anything and that's typical of FIC/UTI for Jude. I had spoken to the doctor a couple of weeks ago about some pain meds for the FIC, and I thought he had everything lined up for me--transdermal meds that I just needed to pick up at the clinic--but, unfortunately, when I went in yesterday, I learned that none of that was ready ☹️ In fact, I learned that the clinic doesn't even keep those meds on hand (because they are controlled substances), and that means that whatever I get for Jude will need to be filled at the pharmacy. My regular vet was not in the clinic (he's on vacation), so the other vet wrote a prescription for Gaba, but when I got to the pharmacy, they only have Gaba with Xylitol, which Jude cannot take 😵‍💫 I have located a compounding pharmacy in the next town over, so I'm hoping my vet will call in the prescription so we can get the ball rolling with compounding the Gaba. In the meantime, I've also asked him to prescribe Bupe to get us through the weekend--I'm not sure if this will happen--it depends on if the vet is answering my emails. I hope I don't have problems dosing Jude with this--he's VERY difficult to dose with liquid/pills, which is why the vet was going to order transdermal. I'm not sure what happened with the "ordering transdermal" ball, but it definitely got dropped.

I will take Jude in the first of this week for a cystocentesis to determine if this is, in fact, a UTI/FIC. I can't imagine what else it might be, but something is increasing his numbers.

Wishing everyone a good weekend, with safe surfs for the kitties!

Sorry Jude is having another flare and the Dr. dropped the ball. 🤗🐈🤗

The liquid Gaba I was giving I just added to his food, no problem at all. Hope you get Jude some relief. ❤️
Thanks, Laurie. I'm not so worried about the Gaba, as it will be compounded into a tuna-flavored liquid; I'm more worried about the Bupe. It was supposed to be transdermal, but now that it's not been ordered, I think the only option will be a pill.

Hoping you and Petey have a nice, relaxing day!

Oh, poor Jude! And what an annoying runaround for you to get the right meds, Mary
Hope it's not too long til you can get him some pain relief and that his numbers show you that he is feeling better.
Healing vines heading your way 🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

Sorry to read that you are having to deal with this and that Jude is not himself. Why can’t people just get their 💩 together?? That makes me so angry 😡 I really hope you’re able to get what he needs to provide him some relief. Sending supportive hugs 🤗 and healing ❤️‍🩹 vibes to Jude.

I'm not sure what to make of these higher numbers at preshot, but then he's dropping to 80 by +4, while yesterday, instead of dropping in his cycle, his numbers went up after his shots.

Does anyone have a thought on this? Is it just that he's got something going on besides the FD, and that's making his numbers erratic?

Sorry you are dealing with all that, Mary! I'm not experienced with the number stuff :p, but could Jude have been bouncing a bit from the 63 last night? Today looks like a bounce recovery. Hopefully he'll snap right back to his steady ways. I have read that UTIs can affect numbers. Hopefully he's not dealing with that... 🤗🤗

@Seth, Thanks so much for that input. I hadn't thought about it being a bounce, but that's possible. The 63 was two nights ago, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't experiencing a long bounce that finally broke today?? One thing I remembered after posting this morning is that when I tested Jude this a.m., he was literally looking out the window at the triple's feral mama, Willa. She comes for food in the a.m./p.m. I think outside cats always stress him, even though she's a regular in the yard. I've wondered if her presence boosted his bg. But he has certainly come down from that high point this morning (to 73 at his PMPS). I'm just used to him being kind of steady, and he hasn't been in the last few days.

Bell has much different cycles than steady Jude, but her bounces can last for multiple days. Stress can also increase BG for sure. He seems right back on track now! Maybe just keep a close eye on him to make sure his numbers don't do anything too surprising until he settles back into his routine.

Well. If anyone understands bounces, it's you.🤗 Thanks, again!

I'm more worried about the Bupe. It was supposed to be transdermal, but now that it's not been ordered, I think the only option will be a pill.
Bupe comes as a liquid, that you squirt in the cheek pouch or under the tongue, to be absorbed there. It does not come as a pill. Neko did quite weill with the chicken flavoured version, though she liked the "chicken soup" version, not the "roast chicken". Bupe is a fussy order, it's a controlled substance, so always took a few days to get the script filled if you want something other than what the vet has in stock. The transdermal will be compounded. Neko's bupe was too.

Remember that quote about not stressing about temporary increases in BG? 😉

He’s just typically so steady that when he goes up, I think something’s wrong. Especially since I know he has FIC, and that it raises his bg. It’s hard to know if there is a FIC flare, a UTI (bc he’s had those in the past), or just a temporary random increase. I just want to be sure I’m treating any underlying illness or pain appropriately. He’s surfing very well tonight—little booger😵‍💫

Hi Mary, I’m sorry to read about all the aggravation you had with getting the meds for Jude.
Boy that is really upsetting. I think we’ve all been there in some fashion and it’s very stressful for us as the pet parent just trying to get them to feel better 😘
It’s always worrying when vet’s office drops the ball and doesn’t get things taken care of efficiently.
I’m so glad to read. Jude came back down to his more normal steady numbers. Obviously, so many things can affect those numbers.
You’re doing such an amazing job trying to balance everything 💕

Hopefully, he’s back on track with his BG. Wishing you both a calm Sunday and sending lots of hugs your way.
❤️‍🩹😻🐈❤️
