Amazing job, Tim! Thank you, thank you!

If this site ends up replacing the old, which it very well may, things should be put in place for multiple tech admins, a process to replace tech admins, and make sure it's third party hosted and backed up.

Thank you again! Facebook made me dizzy!

EDIT: By "replace" I mean, if I'm a back up tech admin and I can no longer do it, a process should be in place to seamlessly onboard my replacement so the site is never at risk of being down for an extended period of time.

Thanks Laurie! Agreed, we should look into that for the main board.

The goal for this page is to be a backup site and not to replace FDMB. I haven’t thought much past just trying to get everyone connected again. But just want to be clear the goal isn’t to replace or copy all the hard work done on FDMB!

Same!! So glad you’re here, Laurie and Petey! ❤️‍🩹

Tim, is there a way to link or point people to all the information located on the original site? If I'm asking too much, please know that I don't know that I am, and just ignore my suggestion . Most of us know how and where to get that information, but if someone new comes, and they need dosing protocols, etc., it would be nice if they have some guidance in getting back over to the original site.

Yes - would be pretty easy and good suggestion. Even if it was just a handful of the more useful links in a sticky here.

I just read the other posts about this. Can we just have a link to the old site?

Yes, and let me clarify- the old site is outdated and on a version no longer supported... so it may have no choice but to the "upgraded". My hope would be to just migrate everything from the MB to the "new" site.

Just a point for consideration. FDMB is literally a "family" affair. The person who started FDMB, Rebecca, asked her nephew, Robert, to take over as webmaster when she retired. It could come across as a slap in the face to pull ownership from FDMB to elsewhere given that Robert has been supporting the board with his time, skill (he's a tech guy), and his money. He is the person that pays the host site for the use of the server. He has never asked for donations. If there is going to be a discussion, Robert needs to be involved. I'd also suggest that the Moderators be involved. While I applaud everyone's enthusiasm and investment in FDMB, the Moderators have been around the site for a long time and may be aware of best avoided "potholes." We are, after all, a community.

I meant no disrespect, and I apologize if I came across that way. Myself and others have offered to help Robert get the site back up and for whatever reason we have not been successful, perhaps he's just too unwell to deal with it. Which is why I think moving forward there should be back up tech admins in place to protect and support the amazing community they created.... it is a legacy that I hope will always continue, and if it comes back online, I hope the risks are mitigated to protect that legacy and the invaluable life saving community.

I don't disagree. I've been relying on Chris (Chris/China) for updates about Robert since I didn't want to pester him. He is in significant pain. That said, this is the longest the Board has ever been down since I've been a member (which is forever) and that includes when the board was migrated to an entirely different server. One of the other current issues is that Robert is in a vastly different time zone than most of us which makes communication complicated.

We do need more than one person for tech support just because of situations like this. Or in other situations, like someone is going on vacation, it's unfair to rely on that person since they shouldn't need to be doing board business when traveling. Everyone deserves a break.
