hi!! 😇

anyone know if kitties are pretty good w heat tolerance? I've been hearing they are (of course to certain levels/within safety..), desert evolved, etc and coat is 3 layered.. can keep cool and warm when needed.. just A/C is out for the moment (do have a portable for use, but only for one room) and sometimes it's upper 80s in the house.. like right now.. its 89.. whelp.. haha.

he seems to want to sleep/sit in the heat tho even when I bring him in the cool room.. so do I need to do this if he's ok? :) I just don't want to bother him if don't need to.. past what temp should I make sure to? (not sure how much longer will be broken.. probably not more than a few weeks more..)

any advices appreciated. ✨

A few years ago, we had a heat dome where I live on the west coast. We had no AC and it was over 90 at night. Humans stayed downstairs, cat chose to stay upstairs in the heat. Now we've got a heat pump.

Make sure Pudge has lots of water available and that it is cold. If he's panting at all, place some wet cool towels over him.

You can wrap some ice packs, the hard plastic kind for lunch boxes / coolers, in a towel and offer that as a cool spot. I used to have a small granite slab that I would put a mouse cage on top during hot weather. The slab is made for chinchillas so found at any pet store. Pop the slab into the freezer for a few hours then wrap in a towel. A granite trivet would also work if you have one. Of course cats are cats so anything you offer may be snubbed 🤪

My cats are holding up well. I have someone coming on Saturday to put in an AC Unit. Meanwhile, I'm just keeping blinds closed if the sun is beating in the window.

The cats seem to hold up better than I do.
