7/4 - Pookey - Post dental

Hi all,

Previous:
7/3 - Pookey - Dental day

So far so good here at home (I think, and anti-jinx).

He’s been pretty active and eating well. His stumbling has decreased and he is walking better today. We’re calling him Mr. Stairs because the vet paper said no stairs, but he has gone up and down them like 50 times :ROFLMAO:

I have not checked his BG yet so that’s still an unknown.

Thanks again for all the support and help yesterday. You all are too kind.

What a great update, Tim 😸 And great photos too, that little tongue out is adorable.
Glad to hear he's eating and active!! Great signs. And can't believe he's taken on the stairs so many times haha (I'll throw another name into the list, although it makes me cringe just writing it - Stair Devil - originally I was going to say he's a dare devil racing up and down the steps 😂🤦‍♀️)

Let us know how the BG goes when you do it. Paws crossed - I'm sure it was just the stress of the day 🤞😊 More healing vines coming your way to continue his recovery!! 🍃

Awww sweet Pookey. So glad to hear he’s eating and doing stairs, even though he’s not supposed to. Naughty kitty, Sir Pookey 👑

Love his beautiful pictures as always, and his sweet little tongue. Such a sweet boy.
Hope you can all get some rest tonight, I’m sure you need some. It’s been a tough couple days. ❤️‍🩹💕🐈😻

Awww sweet Pookey. Sounds like he's recovering pretty well so far. And I absolutely adore his new profile pic with the tongue. I wonder if it will be like that meow or is it just temp whole he heals. Either way super cute. Nestle's tongue was out for the first 24 hrs after he got home and after that he was normal again.
Happy this is all behind you meow and I'm sure you're also relieved.

Thank you so much, Briana! I hope Binx is doing okay at home today after his big day.

Thank you Staci. Selfishly, it’s been kind of nice having him confined to our room at night. He’s even using a new litter box up there, a new man!

I love his tongue sticking out. Even though it’s a reminder of what he went through. I hope it was for the best. Thanks Karolina 🤗

I was out of the house this morning, but was watching him on the cams. Everything seems good. I’m a little concerned reading Briana’s posts that they didn’t give an antibiotic…
Great to hear. That's actually really common, my vet said once the offending teeth are gone the problem goes away.... same for humans these days. At one point we gave antibiotics out like tic tacs and bred super bugs.

If he's pawing at his mouth or a foul odor they say call the vet.

That's reassuring. We do have the follow up vet appointment this coming Friday too. You know, the overthinking...

Glad you have that appointment! Bringing back Lauren's note too below, similar to Laurie's - seems like it's overly precautious and I think maybe with all of other Binx's health concerns that day and the blood work, etc., maybe my vet was just doing a bit more. I know even for myself I worry about taking antibiotics if I don't actually need them.
I think vets have mixed opinions on giving prophylactic antibiotics (due to antimicrobial stewardship concerns), I know our vet only gives them if the pet has certain risk factors or a history of dental infections.

My vet told me to keep Jude in a crate for 48 hours, and he didn't even have extractions! I asked why, and the vet tech told me that they always like to take special precautions with kitties that have certain conditions, like FD. I didn't do that bc Jude doesn't jump a lot and we don't have a lot of elevated areas in the home but also, the little dude would have been miserable. I appreciate over-concern any day vs. under-concern.

Same!! How stressful.

How’s Binx managing with the cone? Oh also, did your vet give you guidance on how many days to do gaba for?
Much better with the cone now. Running into much and I've been giving him some time without it.

She didn't say in her notes, but I was thinking of seeing how he reacts once our supply of bupe is done. Did yours? I may text mine once the bupe is done and see what she thinks. (Edit - she gave me her cell number for check-ins)

Great about the cone, and cell number! Ours just said to use our judgement with the gaba. If he looks like he’s in pain. I’ve been giving it now for 3 days. But I don’t want to stop it prematurely you know.

Judging the pain stresses me out! They can be so good at hiding it. Hopefully it’s somewhat clear, and worst case, can always start it back up if needed. I’ll let you know when I decided to stop.

@Briana + Binx he’s been hiding more today and showing some pain faces without the gabapentin. I think I’m going to go back to it tonight… the internet says 3-5 days of it is common, but I’m sure it depends on the procedure.

It’s the capsules but I’ve been dividing up the powder inside. We’re only 2 hours away from dinner.

Here’s how I caught him today. ChatGPT says some discomfort, but probably not severe pain yet.
