Gave an unearned reduction this morning to try and get him to a dose where I can give it consistently. I've been having to give token doses a lot and/or carb manipulate, neither of which I want to be doing haha. The idea is that I'll be able to give this dose even when he has "low" preshots and it will drop him just enough to surf in the high greens. Previous doses were dropping him too low when given with a preshot below 120.

He's gained some weight back since I've been giving MC/HC food (I had gotten him down to 18.4 and now he's back up to 19.6), so hopefully he'll be able to lose it again and get his bikini body back 😽

I hope you all have a lovely, boring day!!

Do you know what ingredient in the MC food doesn't agree with him? Is it the gluten?
His MC food is grain free, the carb source is peas. He's just sensitive to food changes and non-raw food in general I think. He was on a raw diet of one protein for his whole life before this, and the constipation started when I switched him from raw to wet food in January. Coincidentally, after that switch is also when his diabetes started.

You have enough data that you don't have to be giving partial doses with lower preshots. But I presume this is for your comfort, not for his. You do have lots of data on shooting lower numbers with much higher doses.

Have you tried MC with potatoes for carb? If chicken is his protein, a lot of the Weruva Cats in the Kitchen pouches might work.

Yes, my comfort and my time. Aside from the constipation, it’s also a lot of work to carb mainulate and test all morning or late into the night during PM cycles. My performance at work has been slipping, and I’m a contractor in the govtech industry who could be let go at any minute for any reason. I’m also a single homeowner with my own health issues and I cannot afford to lose my job. Sorry if that’s TMI, but that’s the reality of the situation. I need to find a balance that works for us. I’m trying to get to a dose where I can keep him flat above 90.

I have some of the weruva cats in the kitchen chicken soup that you had recommended, which I use as his HC food. His MC food doesn’t seem to do much though, so my plan was to just go straight for the HC next time I need to boost him. I think you had said Neko didn’t move much with MC food either, right?

Several brands have had issues with bird flu contamination and some cats have died from eating contaminated raw food. The brands have very stringent sourcing and processing protocols, but with the state of public health comms and regulatory bodies in this country right now, I don’t want to even risk it. Cooking is the only surefire way to kill the pathogen.

Gotcha! It's really confirming of the benefit of raw feeding that his condition developed when you took him off raw food.

I know! I brought that up to the vet and she didn’t even want to entertain the idea. She said it had nothing to do with it 🙄I think most of them are against raw food. I really want to switch back

The opposite, she was very carb sensitive. I had to feed HC that was barely that (16%), unless under 40. She mostly got raw otherwise.

Have you considered cooking and making your own raw?

The only "wet" food I could get my non-diabetic cat to eat was Stella and Chewy's raw chicken, which I made into a soup for her. I was also really concerned with H5N1 here in the states, and I didn't really buy the manufacturers claim that their HPP took care of the virus.

I found a brand that cooks the food before freeze-drying it and Blair looooooves it. It's also sourced from New Zealand, which has had much fewer cases and better protocols for dealing with it (low bar, i know). Not sure if it is low carb but I'm sure someone here could help determine that.

Freeze-dried cooked food

Oh, yeah, they are not on the raw food bandwagon. Here, it's hard to get them off the Science Diet wagon, since that's the company that throws money at vet schools.

Good luck with the reduction, Jess and Charlie! Hope you can find just the right dose to keep him where you’d like him for all the reasons. Your reasons are so valid, in my opinion 🥰🥰🥰
