6/4 Jack: 323@amps, 349@+2, 295@+7

Yesterday: 6/3 Jack: 275@amps, 305@+1, 400+ at vet, 284@pmps- dental is done...whew!

Jack is having a higher day today, but based on his traumatic experience yesterday, the amount of pain/discomfort he may be in today, plus the increased temperatures, and the smaller amounts of insulin the past 2 days, I'm not ulcerating too much. He was not good for his buprenorphine this morning; some went in his cheek, some went down his throat, and some ended up on his neck, my hand, and the floor. 🤦‍♀️Safe to say ALL the happy meds have worn off and he's not a happy camper. He is also more squirmy for his BG readings, but I can't really hold any of that against the poor guy.

Some more detail from yesterday's dental below for anyone following the saga:

I was mistaken last night, the pain meds are for 7 days, not 5.

The in-house fructosamine came back at 367 with a 'normal range' of 191-349. The comments included were:
300 to 400 = 'good control'
400 to 450 = 'fair control'
>450 = 'poor control'
<300 = 'cat has reverted to non-insulin dependent state'/excellent control/prolonged hypoglycemia

Safe to say the IDEXX numbers DO NOT correspond in any way to my little human BG meter!

He is not allowed to have any hard food (kibble) for 2 weeks (Excuse me while I scream) Considering his total refusal to abandon kibble for the past 3 years, this is gonna be a fun 2 weeks. He refuses it softened, so I guess I'm just going to pray he decides he only likes wet food and cooperates (not holding my breath). Otherwise, I'm going to try to adjust the insulin to match his food intake. While that's not a great option, it's all that's left...other than a miracle!

They sent his teeth home...thought that was odd. Anyone else who had a dental have that experience? Cat fangs (canine teeth) are larger than I thought!

I updated his SS with the labs from yesterday. They ran a small CHEM panel and again, it's IDEXX ranges, but they only differ a point or two from what everything else is on the SS (Antech) Right now, I didn't put in the IDEXX range (except for fructosamine). Any good ideas on how to add a second range without making the sheet look a mess? Or is it even necessary? Everything except his BG was in the normal range for BOTH labs (IDEXX & Antech)

Just tagging anyone who commented the past 2 days for an update. Hope you don't mind. Will try to be better about going to individual pages in the future.

Lastly, here's a pic of Jack today, looking a bit under the weather. (Ignore the holiday throw and the floor- behind in the house chore department!) Love to all and safe surfing to all the kitties!!!

From the look on his face, he's at least a little bit stoned. And unimpressed! Good luck with the food trials.

The fructosamine range isn't the same range as the BG meter. The numbers will be different and is just an average over two weeks. He's seen some greens in that time frame, so doing OK.

If you look at Neko's SS Labs tab, I had to change from Idexx to TrueNorth labs when she starting going to the IM vet regularly. So I had to put in the different set of ranges for each lab. There were a few values that would have been in range if it had been Idexx but was out of range for TrueNorth, so that's why I had the ranges in there.

They definitely did not send me home with his teeth, wow! I can imagine some people would be into that but I am not one of them, haha.

I think I mentioned this in another thread but--assuming your buprenorphine came in small needleless syringes like ours, we had the most success giving it to him while he was sleeping on his side, where his cheek was facing up, and just sliding the tip of the syringe into the corner of his mouth. Just mentioning in case it helps!

Thanks for the update, Christine. We are sending you vines for lots of strength. You will need it for the challenges.

Weird that they sent home Jack’s teeth 😳
I hope he’s a good boy and cooperates for you.
You ARE a saint, as mentioned above.
Hugs and love to you and your herd 😻🐈‍⬛❤️‍🩹💕

Awww sweet boy. I feel for you both. Definitely not a fun experience and so hard to see them this way. We're sending PAWsitive vibes and lots of healing vines for our sweet Jack. And no I didn't get Nestle's teeth back.

thanks, I may just throw the IDEXX in next to the Antech one over the weekend and then label each column as Antech or IDEXX. Appreciate your advice and support for Jack!

I have the same syringes as you....I added the gabapentin so maybe that will make him sleepy enough to give the bupe, but it didn't work that way last night. His cheeks are just sore I guess....appreciate your input and support; thanks!

KIT! how are you? So happy to see you here! And THANK YOU for stopping in to see about Jack 💓
Hi Christine! We are all doing well. I still miss MIkan badly - it's been 5 months since her departure. Hard to believe. Yuz still has some crystals in his pee but not at a level we need to worry. Another boy needs dental and removal of a benign bump on his head 😰 . Never ends, does it! Hope you and the gangs are doing well!
