5/16 Petey AMPS 196 +2 188 3.5 192

Looks like he's on the high side of a bounce. That reduction may break the pattern, but if he follows the pattern, it might be blues and yellows today. Surf safe, little Petey!

Do you think his mouth is pretty much healed?

Funny you should ask cause he's been off the gaba for two days and I'm really hoping that's not causing today's high numbers... but I don't think his mouth is bothering him. There is no odor and he's acting/eating fine. I'm just paranoid that the gaba was helping to relieve pain some other place. But I was giving such a small dose I can't imagine. 😬

Tonight or tomorrow should reveal more. Let's just hope it's gradual haha!

...Or maybe high before the low.
My brain just can't process the logic sometimes, ok who am I kidding, most times!

So do I have this right... his body panics from yesterday's steep dive and lows and says we're not gonna do that again send out all your glycogen stores (he had a lot I guess) and that process temporarily overpowers the insulin? Then the liver relaxes again, glycogen stores are used up, and insulin catches up?

So he's going up all day (in a bounce) he may potentially head down all night as he is "breaking the bounce?

If I were a betting person here is what I predict: If he follows the pattern he's been on for the last week or so (since 5/11), I predict he'll break the bounce tomorrow a.m. BUT there is that dose reduction to factor in, so that may throw the pattern off.

Yep, but he's got those pinks to contend with now, so I'll see your bet and raise you some yellows then blues tomorrow.

I'm hoping you're right cause that would mean he's working the juice better than ever!

I think it's important to consider that he's earned two dose reductions since 5/11. The depot is resetting, and perhaps that's why he's in the pinks. He'll come down. And you can always increase if you need to. I have this pasted into my ss:

"Remember this from Wendy on FDMB: 'Try not to stress about temporary increases in BG's. I know it's hard. Look at the nadirs instead. Temporary increases can be more than just food, they can be seeing a squirrel outside, getting swiped by another cat, a kitty dream.

Also consider that meters can have 20% variance, which can be quite a bit in higher numbers. 20% of 399 is almost 80 points.'"

Laurie what is Petey's snack schedule? And what are you feeding at snack time. You might have it listed somewhere and I'm probably overlooking it.
Hi Maddie, no overlooking it, I'm awful about it!

If his numbers are not low he gets a +3 +5, +7 and +9 or 10 -depends. About a tsp with water and mostly 4% or 5% LC. But lately he's getting a lot of food to keep him in the safe zone!

No worries lol, I don't think it says anywhere that you are supposed to have them listed, I just have a tendency to stare right at something and not see it 😆

Has Petey’s snack schedule always been at those specific times? I’m wondering if moving his snacks a little earlier—maybe at +1, +2, and +3—might help slow his descent to his nadir.

With Kai, it took me a while to realize that the green numbers themselves weren’t the issue causing his bouncing. It was actually the speed of his descent to his nadir that triggered his body into panicking, which would then lead to the bounce.

Petey’s bouncing doesn’t seem nearly as dramatic as Kai’s, though. Kai could go from green to black in just two cycles, clear the bounce, and then repeat. So, I could be off base here—or maybe you’ve already experimented with adjusting his snack schedule. If that’s the case, feel free to ignore me.

That being said, at the end of April, I shifted Kai’s snack schedule to earlier times, and we’ve seen a huge improvement in the last month (except for my screw-up on May 11th). We haven’t seen a red number since May 5th, which is a major win, especially considering the rainbow of numbers we were seeing between January and March. During that time, I felt like I was constantly chasing him with high-carb food just to keep him in a safe range.

Just some thoughts in the form of word vomit lol 😆 Overall, I just want you to know I understand, and you're not alone. The bouncing and food chasing are so frustrating. I hope he comes down gently for you tonight. ❤️

I'm glad it was at least a calmer day for you today! I dunno about you but after some lows I just really need a break. I'm not the best at predicting what they're about to do next but I'm very curious to see how he does tonight and tomorrow!

Safe surfing, Petey! 💚💙💚💙

Thank you, Maddie! Some shifts may definitely be in order as we figure out his new post dental patterns.

That one deep dive was hopefully a one off, not something I can recall seeing with him...at least not in those low numbers. In the beginning he would dive quick and then shot back up that's when we started a +3 snack to slow his roll.

He has also not been very carb sensitive at all lately so that's been a bit challenging too. I just got some new MC to try when needed.

I'll try a +2 snack today.
