Well, crap. The instant after I gave him his AM dose his Libre phone beeped (very loudly, I might add, I hate it so much) to let me know that his sensor had failed about 12 hours early. I was just saying last night that we hadn't lost one in less than the full 14 days (and this is barely under, but still) since we started using the self-adhesive wrap to cover it.

Naturally,
A) he seems to have been starting to break a bounce early this morning, so possibly an active cycle today, and
B) today is the 6th cycle on this dose and I was planning to use what happened today for a decision about increasing.

But now I can't have any numbers at all until after his dose tonight and no reliable ones until 12 hours after that. I would just replace the Libre myself but I can't; it's a two-person job. One to hold him still, one to do the work. 🙄😩 We could try to do it earlier, but my partner can't reliably be around that early so there'd be a gap next time, and then he'd be way too stressed to get an injection after anyway. Not sure what I should do about tonight's injection at all, then. (For anyone unfamiliar with us: yes, we would manually test if we could, but we can't.)

AMPS is technically from 15 minutes earlier than usual because I didn't realize it wasn't updating, so it's the last number I can see.

Looks like it's gonna be a fun day for us over here. 🙃

Oof. Hang in there, both of you!

If it's any consolation, it's useful to hear your thought process (and read what others will have to say) about the whole thing.

Thanks, Lauren! I'm not looking forward to wondering how he's doing all day. I hate being blindfolded like this. 😩

I'm curious what people will think about tonight too. So far he hasn't gotten any limes on this dose, but that's always the case right up until they do, so... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi Brianna,
I replied to your post last night, but apparently it got lost when the website got transferred over. So I’m going to try to re-create what I was thinking and wanted to share with you.

I was thinking that you could install a sensor on Xander a day earlier than you would like to use it.
Let it marinate on him so he will be wearing two sensors for a day.
One is active one will not yet be active.
At a convenient time for you, all you would have to do is scan the new sensor and activate it. Therefore, your partner won’t need to be home and helping you (because you could have installed it at any time the prior day when it is convenient for both of you).

I normally do this anyway, I install the sensor of the day before I would like to activate it, that way it is marinating and Ivy’s body is adapting to the new sensor

Sometimes actually, the old one fails just randomly anyway, and the new one is already on her and ready to be scanned and started.

Also, you can always end a sensor earlier than letting it run out naturally on its own. In other words, you could end the new sensor earlier than exactly 14 days.
You could activate the new one at a convenient time for you, having already put the new one on with your partner’s help instead of trying to coordinate all that for a perfect 14 day run, (but your partner is not available at exactly the right time.)
It would take a little bit of planning on both of your parts, but it would give you a little more flexibility in reality. I hope this is making sense and if you have any questions, let me know.
😻

I responded to this on the previous domain (and a couple other comments that aren't here anymore) and it looks like they didn't transfer with the redirect. Did you happen to see it before then? lol

No, I didn't see the reply :(

Aww, darn. Well it was basically:

I would love to do the soaking method with the Libre, but there's the problem of not wanting to put him through the being captured and held down ordeal happen twice. If I'm not taking the old one off until the new one is ready to go, I'll have to unwrap him, get the old one off and rewrap him on a second day instead of doing it all at once and getting it over with. Does that make sense? It takes him the full 2 weeks to trust us again anyway, so it might genuinely be difficult to get him to let us catch him to do it again the next day.

If we end up having lots of gaps like this maybe we'll end up going that route anyway. I'm just trying to keep the whole "event" as contained as possible until we don't have a choice anymore.

I really appreciate your advice and thoughts (even if it doesn't work for us at the moment) and I always keep a mental note of them to go back to!

I got it. It was just a thought to try to overcome one issue, but if it presents another issue it's not a good solution for Xander. ECID as they say.
You just have to do the best you can for your situation!
