6/2 Jack: 261@amps, 211@+2...dental tomorrow- fructosamine question

Crazy weekend, we lost power Saturday morning, but luckily it was only out for about 5 hours. Otis went to the vet, his plasma cell pododermatitis is improving, but required another round of antibiotics and steroids. AND Jack goes for his dental tomorrow, without clindamycin on board since he refused to eat much of the probiotic and the clindamycin was a frothy, foamy, spitty, bitey ordeal that caused too much stress. We will opt for a shot of Convenia to come home on, even though that's not the best course of AB's to be on for teeth/mouth issues, it comes down to stress and prying this poor cat's mouth open twice a day. Paws crossed for us both! Will try to update tomorrow, but in the car at 6am for an 8am drop off, 2 hour ride- will do my best to keep you posted. Hope all have a safe, happy, calm week!

EDIT to ask: I just reviewed the estimate for Jack for tomorrow: is there a difference between a $50 "in-house" fructosamine test and one that goes to the lab? My regular vet had quoted me something like $175 for the fructosamine, but they were sending to the lab? I will ask the vet when she calls, but figured I'd see what you all have to say....thanks!

I haven't had a fructosamine done in several years but I had it done at Blue Pearl Hospital so it was pricey (as is everything there).
And it was definitely sent out. Don't think I've ever had one done in house anywhere. $50 is cheap for any test (regarding any of the places I go). But not sure how accurate these tests are in house??? It's a great question!

Glad you have power out, SUCH an inconvenience and makes me lose my mind ( have to keep insulin cool!)

I had opted against the fructosamine the last time the regular vet suggested it, because I do so much testing. She had some long explanation about how it's more than a bg average, blah blah, I honestly didn't pay much attention. The surgeon recommended it, and since I haven't been too good about getting up overnight or doing a curve, I figured I'd see what the cost was. I was surprised at the price and started wondering if anyone had experience with different types of fructosamine tests. I was more interested in the quote for repeating the 2 insulin resistance tests and it has taken 2 weeks to get an estimate of $150 for one test, but the idiot on the phone didn't know which test that was or why there wasn't 2 tests quoted. I gave up and said I'd talk to the vet tomorrow. I seriously don't know how these morons manage to get through life being this stupid and lazy. I appreciate your input, thank you
