Yesterday

Thank you for all your well wishes for the increase yesterday, it seems they worked! He’s had a good cycle today and is currently in the blues! It seems like maybe he has a late nadir? I’m wondering what tests I should get tonight to see what’s going on. I can’t make heads or tails of his pattern anymore.

And in true Jess and Charlie fashion, there’s now there’s another issue. He hasn’t pooped in 4 days. I’ve tried all the usual tricks to get him to go and it’s just not working. I’m terrified of having to take him in to get an enema because that’s the whole source of his fear of the vet in the first place—he had to get one when he was a kitten and it traumatized the hell out of him. Could the BG being so all over the place lately be contributing?

Sorry to be so negative. I know I should be grateful.

Nice blues! 6.5 was a break-through dose for him before; maybe it will be this time, as well. Fingers/paws crossed. I wonder if he's just breaking the bounce rather than showing a late nadir? His PMPS will be interesting, and that along with a +1/+2 will tell you how he's going to work the cycle.

Charlie! Dude. We need a poop. Stat.

Omg that’s right, I totally forgot he bounced up to almost 400 at PMPS last night. Can they break a bounce over two cycles? So he came down overnight last night and all of today?

I’m a little bit nervous about what this dose is going to do now, haha. He came down the dosing ladder soooo fast last time. Getting a PMPS in about a half hour

I don't see a trend of late nadirs, just this cycle. Previous times when he was around this dose (and nice numbers) his nadirs were earlier, as it was on 6/25. You get a better idea of where nadirs are when they start seeing better numbers, and not bouncing as much. I'd start with the +2 tonight, and decide based on that when to test next.

I wonder if Charlie being in higher numbers for a while made him dehydrated. Is he drinking enough? Is it hotter there? Did you try upping the Miralax?

I see you upped the probiotics to 2 packets. Is that the Visbiome constipation care or regular? The recommended dose of probiotics for cats is 5-10 billion CFU/kg/day. The regular Visbiome vet packet is 225 billion, the constipation care one 100 billion. The regular one you should not be going over 1 packet unless he's over 20 lbs. Too much probiotic can cause constipation. Or the opposite.

Last night was a bounce from yesterday's a.m. yellows. Those yellows seem low to him right now because he's been so high lately. Today he's breaking the bounce from last night's pinks. At least that's what I think.

That makes sense. I guess I thought he must be nadiring later overnight since I’ve been waking up to lower AMPS. I’ll start with +2 tonight. I do have an auto feeder that opens at 5am.

There’s definitely some correlation/causation between the numbers and the constipation. Just before and just after his diagnosis, he was regularly going 5-7 between poops. This was under vet supervision after X-rays and everything was normal otherwise. This was also before the probiotics.

He doesn’t really drink on his own since his numbers have come down because I add a ton of water to his food and give him broth snacks in between. I also check his gums and stuff and they’re never tacky! It’s been hotter here, yeah. I’ve increased his miralax to 1/4tsp 2x a day since yesterday, I’ll add that to his sheet. Thanks for the reminder.

He’s on the constipation care one. He usually gets 1 a day unless he hasn’t pooped for ~3 days, then I up it to 1.5 or 2. He’s 19.5lbs. Literally the only thing I can think of is that I started doing pumpkin baby food (pumpkin and water) instead of regular pumpkin puree (100% pumpkin), so the baby food must have less fiber? That plus the high numbers. I’m so stumped.
