Fur shot on Felix, bring back time of injection?

Hi, Suzanne and everyone.

For the first time in 2 months I unfortunately did a fur shot this morning and it's a bit of bad luck because he's so high at 457. Also, he is just getting back into the swing of things after a skipped dose 3 days ago. I know I'm not supposed to repeat the injection in case any did go in.
Now would it be alright to test him a couple of times over the afternoon to see if there's any effect showing from any small amount of insulin which might have gone in and according to the tests, maybe bring back his injection to 6 p.m. especially if he's gone up to Hi? Or is this not recommended and just do his shot nearer his usual time of 10 p.m.?

Thank you in advance for any advice, Suzanne, or anyone!

I’m sorry to hear about the fur shot. You are correct, never give more insulin since we never know if any actually got in and it’s too dangerous to give more.

Most of us have given fur shots at one point or another so please don’t beat yourself up. Give yourself grace and know that you are not alone. It happens, it sucks, but there’s nothing we can do about it.

Of course you are welcome to do any tests that you would like (to see what the glucose levels are), but if you see they are quite high, there’s no point in continuing to test until you’re ready for your pre-shot at the next shot time.

I don’t believe that you will want to move your shot time earlier by four hours because your next shot tomorrow morning should be 12 hours from when you give your shot this evening.

But, I will let more expert advisors weigh in on this question.

Hello, Staci, and nice to meet you on the forum! Yes, one feels so responsible for the cat's well-being so it does feel bad to do a fur shot. So, thank you for your kind words of reassurance.
I know what you mean, it's just a few hours difference between 6 p.m. and 10 p..m. and perhaps it's best to stick to the usual time or, at most, bring it back an hour or so, which isn't too disturbing to our schedule. Thank you and have a great day!

With PZ, If he’s really high then an hour or so should not hurt.

I am not happy seeing those reds on his SS (from before the furshot, I mean.) He needs an increase to 2.5 (but I know we already talked about that and you hold the syringe). Maybe 2.25 tonight and 2.5 tomorrow. I know you were trying for some stability, But fur shots and skipped shots aren’t helping with that. It does happen to everyone occasionally (fur shots).

Greetings, Suzanne. Thanks. Have done the hour early evening shot then. We'll see what happens and if he can be settled into his current dose before the raise to 2.5 if no positive signs. Can't imagine why he's recently been in the reds at +5 at night when he should be lower at night anyway if it's not some lurking inflammation skewing his numbers at the moment and that momentarily when it might go down he drops into blue numbers.
Have a nice evening 🌆 and fab week ahead.

How are things. I think in a couple of days this forum will become read only. Please come over to felinediabetes.com and link this thread. I have been thinking about you and Felix

Hiya, Suzanne. Hey, it's nice to hear from you! Only today, I've been updating my old account on .com with a new signature but I think I'll keep and use the old name Astra&Purrfect (Felix's brother).
Felix has had very high numbers but only today have we had the day at home to monitor him throughout the day to be able to increase the dose to 2.5 units. He went into the yellows, a drop of 190 mg, and this seemed to trigger a sudden rise already by 7h30 post shot to 409. This seems to be Felix's modus operandi. Hope he evens out soon.
His appetite is good and he's been having nice quality wet food, bowls of chicken, some wild-caught poached salmon and tidbits of steak.
Anyway, I must get round to updating the spreadsheet and I'll link this post to a new thread on .com
Have a great weekend!
