We had our vet appointment this afternoon. I had a bunch of things to ask. Got through them but it was all bit rushed as he was running late.
- Two lumps (fluid cysts) aspirated and nails trimmed - done!
- Teeth inspected. They do need to be cleaned as there is major tartar build-up - as I expected. Was advised not to delay too long as it can result in gum disease etc, so I booked him in for next week Wednesday.
- Regarding tooth cleaning going forward: vet recommended that I wrap gauze around my finger and rub his teeth (if he will let me). He said to do it dry, no water and no toothpaste. This will only remove newer tartar/plaque, not the older tartar (latter needs the tooth cleaning procedure). Once every two weeks is enough. @Mary & Jude you wondered if this would be an option, and you were correct!
- Anti-histamine for itchy patches and redness on face. He had a real outbreak about two or three months ago. As this situation is much improved I had tapered off the daily half tablet Allergex (Loratadine) and hadn't given it to him for a few days. But I could see one of his eyes was a bit red today, and he's been scratching again so vet recommends I go back to the Allergex and continue indefinitely, but just a quarter tablet daily.
- Bump next to his nose. I'm so scared of him getting cancer on his nose (common white cat/pink nose problem in our sunny climate, my brother's cat had a very bad case) but vet said it's just a little growth, nothing to worry about. But we did find he has a little cat acne under his chin that needs some treatment, so I need to attend to that once I get the recommended ointment.
Vet was very impressed at how well he is doing otherwise.
I just showed him the weekly summary of BG on the app. He didn't get the full spreadsheet experience this time round
