5/13 Noogi - AMPS 121, +2 103, PMPS 106

Yesterday

We had our vet appointment this afternoon. I had a bunch of things to ask. Got through them but it was all bit rushed as he was running late.
- Two lumps (fluid cysts) aspirated and nails trimmed - done!
- Teeth inspected. They do need to be cleaned as there is major tartar build-up - as I expected. Was advised not to delay too long as it can result in gum disease etc, so I booked him in for next week Wednesday.
- Regarding tooth cleaning going forward: vet recommended that I wrap gauze around my finger and rub his teeth (if he will let me). He said to do it dry, no water and no toothpaste. This will only remove newer tartar/plaque, not the older tartar (latter needs the tooth cleaning procedure). Once every two weeks is enough. @Mary & Jude you wondered if this would be an option, and you were correct!
- Anti-histamine for itchy patches and redness on face. He had a real outbreak about two or three months ago. As this situation is much improved I had tapered off the daily half tablet Allergex (Loratadine) and hadn't given it to him for a few days. But I could see one of his eyes was a bit red today, and he's been scratching again so vet recommends I go back to the Allergex and continue indefinitely, but just a quarter tablet daily.
- Bump next to his nose. I'm so scared of him getting cancer on his nose (common white cat/pink nose problem in our sunny climate, my brother's cat had a very bad case) but vet said it's just a little growth, nothing to worry about. But we did find he has a little cat acne under his chin that needs some treatment, so I need to attend to that once I get the recommended ointment.

Vet was very impressed at how well he is doing otherwise.
I just showed him the weekly summary of BG on the app. He didn't get the full spreadsheet experience this time round :)

Here is Noogi getting his chin scratched in his carrier while we waited:

Sounds like a fairly good report, especially the bump on the nose. The instructions on the little finger gauze thingies I purchased say to apply water, but I can see how no water would be more (but not too) abrasive and effective in removing tartar. Good news that he only needs a teeth cleaning, too.

And it looks like he didn't even experience a stress-spike in his bg! Good job, Noogi!

He's precious, as always!

Sounds like the appointment was a great success and mostly good news! So glad that the little bump near his nose was nothing to worry about! I had no idea that that was a potential issue, but it makes sense.

Noogi's got such a sweet little face! 😍

Hi Helen, so glad the vet visit went well! Noogi looks "thrilled".
So glad you can have his dental done soon and then follow up with easy brushing. He's so easy going so that should be a breeze, right?

Hope you have a safe surf and a nice night, hugs to Noogi, what a good boy! 😻

He was keeping a beady eye on the practice cat (that sounds weird, I mean of course the cat who lives at the vet's practice).
His mortal enemy!
Noogi is not a fan of other cats. In his youth he got into a lot of fights - from brief skirmishes to outright brawls. In those days he was very bad boy.

It is astonishing to me how much he has mellowed. And of course he no longer has freedom to roam and get into trouble.

Haha. It’s hard to picture your sweet, mellow Noogi as a bad boy 🫣

I can see Noogi being a bad ass! That's a great report so glad everything went well! 🤗

Does he go in for a dental before you leave for 10 days? Just thinking about the possibility that they find something on the xrays that may require extraction... and of course I wouldn't want you to have to worry about anything else while you're away!

A wonderful update from Noogi's vet visit! So glad you've come away with more knowledge, actionable items and a little less worry (hopefully, about the nose growth)! The gauze note is actually a very helpful one for all too - was wondering what needed to be done to keep their teeth clean after a cleaning! Glad you were able to book him in next week to get that going.

Also, that weekly summary must've knocked the socks of your vet! Noogi is doing so well (anti-jinx for safety?)!!
Hope you both have a lovely evening 🤗

Noogi used to swagger around like he owned the block. His macho attitude was always undercut by the fact that he has the littlest meow!

We did not discuss x-rays! Do you think they are advisable? Is that how you caught Petey's dental problems?
As far as I know the procedure is just a cleaning.

That's adorable! He's all claws no meow!

I would assume anesthesia and that is the only way they can get xrays. Petey had some surface signs of something under the surface being pretty bad but they couldn't tell without xrays. She said sometimes it looks bad but the root and bone are fine. They should also take xrays after extractions to make sure they got it all.

Maybe Noogi's teeth don't look that bad to warrant xrays? But you know with us your first visit always includes xrays.

I'd just hate to put Noogi through that and not be thorough... I'd only want to do it once.

Very good thinking. Thanks for the heads up 🙏
I'll check with vet - we need to talk beforehand anyway to decide on the best way to handle the sedation.
