It's been quite a morning for us here. Xander woke me up for his breakfast while I was dreaming, so I was very out of it. This is when we give him his Gabapentin (75 mg) in preparation for injection a few hours later. Usually my partner gives him this meal because they're often already up, but if they aren't I do it. I was so out of it that I forgot to put a note that it was done on the whiteboard like I normally would, which meant when my partner was up shortly later, they also gave him his breakfast and meds. So he's up to 150mg at this point.
He was originally prescribed 100mg twice/day but I didn't like how sedated it made him, so I cut it down to 50. When he started to seem more anxious with injections, I upped it to 75mg and that's been perfect. So I know 200mg total daily is fine, because that's what his original prescription was. I'm curious if anyone has any experience with anything above that though? Tonight he's getting his Libre replaced so he'll need his full dosage even more then normal (of course). Will 225mg total today be safe? 25 isn't much more than 200, so I'd think it'd be okay for one day.
As of right now he's just way more sleepy than usual and otherwise seems fine. My frantic Googling finds a lot of results that basically say 300 is very high and he may forget he even exists for like 12 hours but will be fine because Gabapentin has such a wide margin of safety.
I did leave a message with the vet but not sure when/if they'll get back to me in time.
Hope everyone's having an uneventful, safe day.
