Yesterday's thread!

Today would be one week/curve day for 1u but my boyfriend is going into the office and I don't think I can get that many tests on my own in one day. That said, we're hoping to apply the Libre after work or at least trim down the shaved spot so we're ready to apply. I'm actually going out of town for a family thing tomorrow afternoon-Sunday morning so it would be great if we could have it up and running before I go. Fingers crossed!

Good luck, Lauren!! Paws crossed for an easy installation.
Remember to take a calm, deep breath before you begin.
And have it quiet and calm before you start
(I have a mandate in my house. Don’t call me, that’s the time my husband just has to ask me a question 😳,
The TV is Off, my phone ringer is Off, etc.)

Things go smoother when you can focus and be very zen 🥰😻

Seconding Staci - everything stops for Libre application. No one is allowed move, breathe, or think too hard within a 1 mile radius of our home. 😅

Good luck with the application! I hope it goes well and you can be relaxed and comfortable knowing you have a clear picture of what's going on. :)

Sending you all the good vibes for a successful libre application. Do you have a second one on hand just in case? 🍀

Can't wait to see a new dapper shirt photo. 😻

We did it! Or at least we think we did. We made it through the one-hour set-up period and the first reading is just "HI"--does that mean >400? He is probably a little stressed from the whole endeavor and he did eat a big snack (although it was half normal LC food and half plain chicken) while we were applying it, so >400 would be a little unusual but not crazy. I know it's a known thing that the readings the first 12-24 hours are inaccurate so I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that we didn't break it somehow.

Also a dumb question for you Brianna--do you replace the bandage wrap at any point in the two weeks, or just leave it on as long as it doesn't get too dirty?

Yaaay! Congrats on your first successful placement! Don't feel too bad if it doesn't last the whole time - it does get better and 9/10 last the full 2 weeks now for us.

Yes, HI means >400, and LO means <40. I wouldn't be surprised by that number at all this soon after diagnosis and with stress.

Re: inaccuracy - it's potentially inaccurate in the first 12-24 hours, but not definitely. Basically if something seems really off from what you'd expect, take a manual test before making any treatment decisions. In my experience they seem about right. In terms of accuracy the rest of the time: the Libre will show higher numbers at the high end and lower numbers at the low end. So basically, the extremes are probably not quite as extreme as they look.

I replace the bandage if it gets messed up (sometimes it folds too much and starts revealing the sensor, etc). If it seemed to get dirty of course I'd replace it then too, but I haven't seen that happen. I wish we could spend some extended time with it off so he can groom, because Xander in particular is a dandruffy cat and it makes him itchy (especially recently), but if I do that he'll immediately bite the sensor off. 🙃 So when I change the Libre I use a damp cloth to try to clean the covered area. Dunno if it helps much and I hope this doesn't develop into worse itching, but for now it's the only thing that's worked for us, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

That covers exactly what I needed to know, thank you so much!

Honestly if we can make it to Sunday afternoon when I come home from my trip with the Libre still attached, I'll consider it a success, haha.

Yay!! 🎉
Great job!! Now you’re experienced!!
I think the reality as it takes longer to do the prep work than to actually attach the sensor. It’s over in like a second once it makes that click you’re done 😳
And the same thing for the kitty, they hear the click, they turn their head and it’s over before they even know what happened 🥰

I agree with Brianna, I’m not so sure the sensor is inaccurate either in the first day.

A lot of times what I’ve noticed is my old sensor Let’s say was in the 150 range before I ended it and the new one after the one hour warm-up was somewhere in the same range so that tells me they are within range of one another.
And like Brianna said, if something seems really off, that’s when you would want to test.

I don’t worry too much about the high numbers because I’m not really going to change anything (immediately) if they’re high.

It’s really the low numbers I worry about if that makes any sense. The low numbers is where I would need to take action, give higher carbs, etc.

Hoping Esse has no problem getting used to that Libre!
Do you have it transmitting to your phone through the app so you can see what his bg is?

Great job!! 👏🏻 🎉👏🏻😻🥰

Yup, he's asleep in my bf's desk chair and I'm eating dinner on the couch and can see that he's at 390 now!

I just set him up with an old phone of mine (conveniently on the manufacturer's official approved list). I find it kind of hilarious that the cat has his own phone now. He's a fancy guy, he wears clothes and has a phone. 😂

lol, yep, we do have “fancy” cats. Clothes and phones (kind of like a teen-ager) 😂😂😂

I’m glad you have it all set up ❤️‍🩹😘
