Hi, despite having cerenia onboard since 4pm yesterday, Minner still not interested in her low carb normal food. I injected zofran this morning but I don’t think that’s going to change her willingness. She has no hesitation eating florentine (13%) and hartz bisque (high carb, prob 30+) …the cat equivalents of eating ice cream and cookies.
Knock on wood, no vomiting or diarrhea. She has actually had no bowel movements at all (pee or poop) since her diarrhea/vomit episode almost 24 hours ago. I would think she should pee soon or I’ll need to start worrying about that.
The vet told me she did not think it necessary to do spec fPL …. “When their amylase and lipase are low normal, I do not recommend that test. Even if the test showed a high result (indicating elevated lipase), it is still symptomatic treatment”.
My husband thinks I should let her eat the wet foods that are in the 10-13% carb range and alter her insulin dose to handle it, at least until we get past whatever this is. Can anyone help me with that? I’ve been keeping her so tightly regulated and eating only 0-5% carb foods, I have no idea how to manage letting her eat the MC food. She’s been at 5.75 units for 3 weeks and was at 6u for 3 weeks prior to that. Should I bump her back to 6 units with MC food? Or wait for her to BG to go above a value? I just don't want to pass the renal threshold given the further risk of dehydration.
